Buy handmade for a warm fuzzy feeling!

Thinking about gifts, Ive been doing a lot of Birthday pressie buying recently and I wanted to encourage anyone and everyone to have a go at handmade, I usually paint for close friends and family and if you, too, can make someone a pressie it is so much more special for them that you took the time and effort to think of them and used your creativity to produce a personal gift that they can treasure.
We don’t always have the time and if you don’t (a bit like me recently) then buying a handmade gift is just lovely, not only for the recipient but for the maker! Artists and craft people need the world to stop buying into the state of hideous commercialism which seems to be the current trend, buying goods from major (and largely foreign owned) supermarkets on the cheap does not help our economy (contrary to what these giants would have us believe!)
Normal people who are in the creative trade often need encouragement as it can be challenging to unleash creativity when worrying how they are going to pay their bills, so you can help by simply using sites like www.Etsy.com where you can find all manor of handmade goodies from local and global artists and crafts people.
Also, try taking a look in local craft exhibitions, they are a fab place to pick up gifts and often you can meet the maker and get a bit of background info on them.
I recently picked up the most beautiful embroidery (’Enchanted Forest’ by Helen Priestly) for my Dads 50th Birthday, it was a very unique gift and i felt super chuffed knowing I’d helped out a local fellow artist, when i quizzed the sales person about the artist she told me that she was currently pregnant and it put a smile on my face all day long, isn’t that sweet, i wonder if anyone caught my smile and passed it along?
Here comes the sales pitch… you could always buy a painting from mazoo! I will paint you whatever you fancy for an alternative and unique gift, simply send me an email to sales@mazoo.co.uk letting me know what you would like, i can always help out and give you some ideas too.

It’s a watercolour of Eleanor of Castile by Mark Satchwill. He does great ones of historical figures amongst other things.
